You have written with great integrity about delving under the surface of your experience; interrogating your necessary defence-mechanisms and recontextualising the impact of experiences of which you were only partly aware. This has been a terrific achievement and has led to some great reflections on how new learning will impact on your client work.</p><p></p><p>You draw well on theory and it seems as though there are many rich ideas that can be followed through beyond this assignment. I like the reference to Belk whose sentiment is reminiscent of Winnicott’s ideas about transitional space and transitional objects. The loss of your secure base was a devastating event; based in the wake a trajectory of other earlier trauma. References to Erikson have helped you to understand the impact of trauma at different developmental stages – and you have made excellent links here. Additionally, your perseverance and research on attachment has led you to reconfigure your perceptions of your primary attachment style. Erskine stresses that we often have a combination of styles – arising from having had many different attachments. It can be a moveable feast rather than a rigid framework.</p><p></p><p>There were a few typos but otherwise this was a coherent and moving essay which reflects on key areas that have shaped your ongoing development and what this may signify for you in your work with clients. I recognise that you may feel that you have had to compromise on how much material you were able to refer to and I hope that this assignment feels a positive step despite this.</p><p></p><p>Thank you for your hard work.
